Welcome to Moonbear Kung Fu Academy

​Kung Fu is my passion.

I’ve been training in Chinese martial arts for over 35 years and I’ve been sharing my knowledge with kids and teenagers in Canberra since founding Moonbear Kung Fu Academy in 2004.

I now also teach all interested adults as part of UC Stars Kung Fu.

Together, we have fun while developing practical self-defence skills. It’s a privilege to see kids become more confident in themselves, while being respectful and kind members of our community.
​Whether we are training together or performing Dragon Dance around Canberra, we continue to put a modern twist on ancient traditions so more people can learn and enjoy Kung Fu.

If you or your child ever want to try Kung Fu, you’re welcome to attend a class free of charge.

Our Programs

These practical classes take place in a family environment best suited for ages from 8 yo all the way to adults. .  Adults will need to join as UC Stars Kung Fu members and can be UC students or anyone from the community.  

When: Mondays 4:15 pm – 6.00 pm during school terms.  
Sundays 3.00 pm to 5:00 pm most weekends.
Lessons for term 1 in 2026 start on Sunday 1st February.

Where:  Mondays: Group Fitness Studio, Building 4, University of Canberra, University Drive South, Bruce, ACT, 2617
Sundays:  UC Refectory.
Dragon and Lion Dance is an extension of Kung Fu and Canberra Dragon Dance is the professional performance arm of our academy.

Dragon and Lion Dance training along with Chinese percussion is incorporated into Moonbear Kung Fu and UC Stars Kung Fu training.

Canberra Dragon Dance was presented the ACT Multicultural Award for Multicultural Arts, Media or Culture in 2025.
Due to popular demand the inaugural Moonbear Cubs program started in 2024. It is on Sundays for students aged 4 yo to 7 yo who want to learn lion dance. The classes are on Sunday afternoons and run by our very own Rex Li!

We are pleased to announce that the program will continue in 2026 with lessons now being on Sundays from 4:15 - 5:00 pm at the UC Refectory.  The spots will now be  limited to 12 students only and existing and new students are welcome.
