The UC Kung Fu Association was formed in 2017 with the purpose of providing tuition of asian arts to University of Canberra students, staff and the general public.

It is a UC not-for-profit cultural club governed by  UCX (UC Life!) and therefore is an incorporated association with transparency in finances and operations to all members and to benefit members.  In 2021 it has  transitioned to becoming a UC not-for-profit sports club adopting the name change of UC Stars Kung Fu.

Current tuition is provided by the Yut Hung Kung Fu Academy with lessons in Yee Kuen Kung Fu, Cheng Style Ba Gwa and Black Eagle Eskrima along with the performing arts of  Dragon Dance and Lion Dance.  It is expected in the future other disciplines will be taught with various instructors.  We have had several guest instructors since our inception with Sifu David Crook from Bac Fu Do, Sifu Brendan Tunks from Seven Star Praying Mantis and Pia Andrews from Shaolin Kung Fu providing free workshops to our members.

UC Stars Kung Fu has been seen around campus at various events such as UC Open Day, Multicultural Mega Market Day, Faculty of Health Open Day and has had an intensive workshop provided by Australian Yau Kung Mun Chinese Martial Arts Association from Sydney.   Besides learning self defence UCSKF members also perform at various events in Canberra for festivals, openings, weddings and conferences and we represent and promote the diversity and flavour of UC.   In 2019 we were fortunate to be invited to perform on the Majestic Princess Cruise Ship to New Zealand for a professional lion dance performance for Lunar New Year and 4 of our members (3 of them current UC students) were paid to make the trip.  Later that year our entire club performed Dragon and Lion Dance at the AIS Arena during the Opals vs China women's basketball match in preparation for the Asian Cup.   Each year we are invited to perform in the National Multicultural Festival Parade and all UCSKF members have the option of performing for Canberra Dragon Dance, although it is not compulsory.

Membership is open to any UC student, staff and the general public who have finished Year 12 schooling (or equivalent). Associate members are from 8 yo to 17 yo and need to be a member of YHKFA to attend these sessions.    You can view the constitution of UCSKF here.

Our current committee is:
President - Chloe Van
Vice President - Jesse Lo
Treasurer - Dr Wilson Lo
Secretary - Leo Balfour

Fees for 2026:

All members are required to pay an annual membership fee of $5.00 via the Rubric app or website.  Current UC students will have discounted tuition fees and the fee structure in 2026 is currently $20 a semester.  All alumni, staff and community members are charged $50 a term.    Associate members (underage) pay fees under YHKFA and are guests of UCSKF with no voting rights and are not  able to be part of the committee.
