This year our party also included the Wolf Pack students from Prosperous Mountain Lion Dance and it was a good chance for the Wolf Pack to get acquainted with our regular students from the weekday classes. Everyone had a lot to eat and got very wet with several water fights. The annual awards were presented as follows: We congratulate all our award winners and recognise their achievements resulting from their hard work!
For many years our academy has had a close association with Prosperous Mountain Lion Dance (PMLD) with some joint performances and the troupe providing percussion during our demonstrations. Traditionally in Asia Kung Fu and Chinese Lion Dance go hand in hand and are often practised and performed by the same school. Some members of PMLD already have a martial arts background but on 31st May 2015 keen members of PMLD started training in kung fu as taught by our academy, in conjunction with their usual lion dance training. This group has been affectionally known as "The Wolf Pack" concentrating initially on practical self defence and a "Do What It Takes" attitude. With time they will be trained in all aspects of our kung fu style. The sessions are also attended by some of our senior students as part of advanced "closed door" training. This close collaboration was seen during our Floriade demonstration this year "The Adventures of the Greedy Pig" during which PMLD provided some much needed percussion and even participated in a fight scene between some Chinese lions and animal spirits. The Wolf Pack also displayed their self defence skills as part of the performance. Now some of our kung fu students have become members of PMLD and are training in lion dance! We hope this partnership extends well into the future! For more information on Chinese Lion Dance visit: www.canberraliondance.com Sisook Blair Singh came back from overseas study prematurely and immediately rejoined our school to concentrate on his grading for senior instructor level. That takes dedication. Rajiv Singh has come back after 4 years break and has slotted in as if he had never left, helping out with other students and the running of the school. Congratulations to Sisook Blair and Rajiv for being the students of the month!
