In November we were busy preparing for gradings and getting as much kung fu training done as possible. The students who were outstanding in class were:
DRAGON - Liam Whiting. Good attendance and attention to training which resulted in an outstanding performance at the grading LION - Lochlan Graf. Consistent with attendance and helping out in class as usual along with individual practice. WOLF PACK - Tyson Baker. Always coming to class - 3 times a week mostly and offering to help others.

We've just had our last lesson of the year and looking forward to our Christmas Party and Awards celebration! Our term 4 grading was completed in class last week and congratulations to all those who put in a huge effort to sit for it. The successful applicants were:

Most of our students are preparing for an end of year grading. The students who stood out were:
DRAGON - Asya Krepysheva. Kept up her usual level of enthusiasm and attending as many classes and performances as she can. LION - Lochlan Graf. Great attendance and excellence in setting an example with techniques, etiquette and choreography. WOLF PACK - Tyson Baker. Enthusiastic as always and a proud member of our academy.
Global Student Recruitment at UC also contacted us to provide a self defence workshop for international students from China who were living in Canberra on 15th November. We were more than happy to provide these two workshops and look forward to working with the universities in the future.
On Sunday 5th November 2017 the inaugural general meeting of the UCKFA was held on the campus of the University of Canberra. The purpose of the association is to provide UC students and the general public tuition in the asian arts - currently Chinese kung fu and Filipino eskrima, wushu, dragon and lion dance, although this list may be expanded upon in the future. The lessons are provided on the campus of UC and the association will be a UC cultural group governed by UC Life! The association is intending to present the minutes to UC Life! in the next 2 weeks and then open a club bank account and be declared a not for profit group.
Currently YHKFA is providing tuition to UCKFA on Saturdays from 1-3 pm. UC students and the general public from age 8 onwards are welcome to trial a free lesson and join as members to receive tuition. The committee of the UCKFA was elected at the IGM and are as follows: President - Dr Wilson Lo Vice-President - Mr Jarryd Morton Treasurer - Dr Sim Hom Tam Secretary - Mr Jeroen Splinter General Committee Member and Social Events Organiser - Ms Janine Walker In July, August and September we were very busy with dragon, martial arts and lion dance performances including our biggest production each year for Floriade. This year our production was called "Dragon Heart" and was a sequel to last years "Dragon High" Our students of the month of September were:
DRAGON - Jesse Lo. Put in a big effort for Floriade, the Vietnamese Moon Festival, Bruce Sports Medicine opening, training with Yau Kung Mun in Sydney and being the head for the lion for the Canberra Moon Festival. LION - Lochlan Graf - consistent in class and held the fort for Floriade when many of our students were away due to family reasons. Acted as understudy and choreographer for others and ended up performing their parts anyway. WOLF PACK - Asya Krepysheva. Joined the weekend classes and has flourished with wushu and has been helping as much as she can with performances such as a main role for Floriade, and performing at the Vietnamese Moon Festival and Canberra Moon Festival. In June and July we had two combined martial arts and dragon dance performances. It was great teamwork to pull these off! On 24th June 2017 we performed at the FCCCI Chinese Language School as as guest act for their Multicultural Festival. And on 2nd July 2017 we were busking at the Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston at their Multicultural Day. We are also looking forward to a private dragon dance performance at the University of Canberra on 5th July. On 1st June 2017 we held a grading for three of our students. They all put in a lot of hard work and now we have two new members! When a student fills out a membership form commencing lessons that is just an application. Full membership to the academy has to be earnt by passing that first grading. The results were as follows:

DRAGON - Yannick Splinter. Consistent in attendance and put in a lot of effort for recent dragon demonstrations LION - Lochlan Graf. Excellent effort in class and helped with judging the recent grading WOLF PACK - Brendan Kok - taken the reins for dragon dance tuition whilst Ares Nie is away and has become our dragon percussion maestro and teacher! From Saturday 13th May 2017 we will have regular lessons in Wushu and Dragon Dance. Unlike our AIS lessons we also open these sessions up to adults, as well as kids over 8 y.o. and teens. We have some introductory prices for these lessons including UC and ANU student discounts. If you are fit and/or musical, are of good character and want to work in a team learning about these aspects of Chinese culture then please contact us for more information. First lesson is free so come along and give it a go! Lesson are held in the UC Indoor Sports Hall 2 from 1:00 - 3.00 pm on Saturdays.
