Bored these holidays? We will hold some holiday workshops in kung fu, lion dance and dragon dance. The first two sessions will be between Christmas and New Year; Thursday 27 December 9 am to 12 noon and Saturday 29 December 2pm to 5 pm. We will announce details of later January workshops closer to the time.
These workshops are for all ages 7 yo and up and perfect for families. They are for practitioners of all levels and participants will be divided into groups to reflect their level of experience. Want to trial some kung fu or dragon or lion dance but not sure if you want to commit to regular lessons? Then these workshops are for you! Want to further your studies in kung fu, dragon dance or lion dance and excel at what you do and learn something you never learnt in class? Then these workshops are also for you! Please contact us for further details. It has been a very busy September and October with our annual demonstration at Floriade, and our martial arts, lion and dragon dance performances for the Canberra Moon Festival, Canberra Vietnamese School Moon Festival, Floriade Nightfest, and the UC Sleepout. Term 4 is about to begin on Monday 15th October and we will knuckle down and concentrate on controlled combat drills, sparring and just allowing students to practise their new skills they learnt this year in situational scenarios. There will also be a grading the end of this term and our annual Christmas Party and Awards ceremony. Awards presented will include Rookie of the Year, Wolfpack Award, Proficiency, Instructor of the Year, Student of the Year (as voted by students themselves) and The Three Virtues Award.
Lunar New Year 2019 is also coming up and we will be busy on weekends training for lion and dragon dance performances in preparation for the new and amazing routines we will perform for events such as the National Multicultural Festival and the Majestic Princess cruise ship! Our celebrated students of the past month were:
DRAGON - Liam Whiting. Very consistent with attendance and training three times a week. LION - Emily Whiting. Enthusiastic in everything she does and trained well to achieve 77% in her first grading WOLF PACK - Evelyn Wu. Excellent attendance record at UCKFA lessons and enthusiastic in teaching percussion to all students. The last lesson of term one was dedicated to a beginner grading. Marks were added up in the school holiday break and assignments studied. We are pleased to announce that Emily Whiting has been awarded a junior white sash lion with a mark of 77%! She is now a full member with her membership number being #97 and she will be given her sash and certificate the start of term 2 next week!
OK we've been a bit slack. Or rather busy! So much has occurred this first part of this year with Chinese New Year, Man from Iron Back and even Lambing Flat Festival with performances and appearances - that these recognitions are really for January, February and March!
DRAGON - Jesse Lo. Good attendance record for practise sessions including training 5 times a week before Chinese New Year. Also the youngest person (12 yo) to perform in the 18m Singaporean Dragon Jet and he really isn't fazed by performing in adult positions in dragons and lions. LION - Samuel Le. Full of enthusiasm during our busy time and good performances in kung fu, dragon and lion for Chinese New Year. WOLF PACK - Wallace Lo. A rookie to our school and with no prior experience was an essential part of our performance team during Chinese New Year and deciding to stay on as a regular student. Always helping with driving, transporting and storing equipment and doing whatever he can for the academy, demonstrating the true martial arts spirit. Did well with crash courses in gong, cymbals, and dragon and performed in the main dragon for the Chinese Ambassador, National Multicultural Festival and for Yau Kung Mun at the Lambing Flat Chinese Festival. We are pleased to announce that another senior student/instructor has passed his grading. Congratulations to Sihing Sam Le who is now promoted to Junior Purple Sash Lion.
A senior closed door grading was held on 21st December 2017. Thank you to all those who participated and helped out. It was a hard physical test of endurance. Congratulations to the following students who were successful:
Sihing Lochlan Graf - Junior Purple Sash Lion Sisook Jeremy Le - Senior Purple Sash Lion with honours On behalf of YHKFA and UCKFA we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and wonderful New year! Training starts again at the AIS on Monday 5th February and at UC on Saturday 13th January. Looking forward to seeing you there!
In November we were busy preparing for gradings and getting as much kung fu training done as possible. The students who were outstanding in class were:
DRAGON - Liam Whiting. Good attendance and attention to training which resulted in an outstanding performance at the grading LION - Lochlan Graf. Consistent with attendance and helping out in class as usual along with individual practice. WOLF PACK - Tyson Baker. Always coming to class - 3 times a week mostly and offering to help others. |
